New York, NY (April 8, 2008)- The 12th Annual Webby Awards today unveiled the nominees in seven categories honoring mobile Websites, capping a banner year that saw mobile technology and content become increasingly smarter and more sophisticated.

Hailed as the "OSCARS® of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, online film and video, interactive advertising, and mobile Websites. The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA's Chief Bob Greenberg, "Simpson's" creator Matt Groening, and Arianna Huffington.

Recognizing achievement in sites designed specifically for mobile devices, nominees range from heavyweights like Yahoo! Mobile Web and ESPN.com Mobile to rising stars like Zannel and Cellufun to global breakouts like Goal.com Mobile (Netherlands). In all, thirty-five nominees will compete in seven categories: Listings & Updates, News, Entertainment, Gaming, Mobile Marketplace & Services, Social Networking, and Sports. A list of mobile nominees can be found at: http://www.webbyawards.com/webbys/.

"The release of smarter and increasingly user friendly mobile devices in 2007 signaled a major shift in mobile technology and has spurred exciting innovation in mobile content,"said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "We're proud to be honoring the innovators setting the benchmarks for this emerging field."

Unlike other awards shows, where only judges choose the winners, The Webby Awards also give the global Web community an opportunity to decide who will take home a Webby. Starting today through May 1, the public can cast their votes in The Webby People's Voice Awards presented by Nokia at http://pv.webbyawards.com.

Winners will be announced on May 6th, 2008 and honored at a star-studded ceremony in New York City on June 10th. All winners will take to the stage to deliver their speeches in five words or less. Past headline-grabbing speechmakers include Al Gore ("Please don't recount this vote"), Beastie Boys ("Can anyone fix my computer?"), and Prince ("Everything you think is true.")

The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.
