Guide to Social Media Outreach for the Webbys
Social media sites offer wide-reaching and effective ways to promote Webby activity and attract a consistent following. We've reached voters, fans, entrants and industry members on our social networking pages (Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter) and you can do the same. Here are some tips on how to do it:
MAKE A WEBBY TWITTER ACCOUNT
Your account is a platform to share updates, receive feedback and mobilize your Webby community. Start by creating a Twitter account specific to your country, for example @webbysgermany, and post in your native language as an official Ambassador. Follow @thewebbyawards on Twitter for our official tweets, translate them and post them in your language. Our Twitter account has a list of Ambassadors' accounts so users can follow the stream of international Webby tweets.
FOLLOW LOCAL INDUSTRY LEADERS
Search for professionals in your country. Request to follow them on Twitter and they'll follow you back.
POST LINKS TO NEW WEBBY CONTENT
When we update our Tumblr, Facebook page, Flickr and YouTube channel, post links in your Twitter and translate descriptions of the content.
POST LINKS TO WINNERS' FIVE-WORD SPEECH VIDEOS AND OUR VIRAL VIDEOS
All of the 5-word acceptance speeches from the 15th Annual Webby Awards show, plus red carpet moments, on-stage surprises and special videos are available on our YouTube page. Find the winners from your country and tweet about their videos.
CREATE A SOCIAL NETWORKING PAGE, EVENT OR GROUP
What is the most popular social networking site in your country (i.e. Facebook, Xing, LinkedIn, Bebo)? Create and manage a special Webby Awards group, page or event. Invite people in the industry to connect there. Keep it updated with key dates and deadlines. Use our Facebook page as an example.
GET THE 011
Sign up for The 011, The Webbys' monthly newsletter, by going to the Webby Awards site and entering your email address in the box on the left sidebar of our homepage.
POST PICTURES FROM OUR FLICKR ACCOUNT
Illustrate your updates with pictures from our Flickr photostream. There you can access over 3,000 pictures from the Webby Awards show and international events.
TALK ABOUT THE WEBBYS IN YOUR BLOG OR NEWSLETTER
While Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter pages expand your Webby following and keep your followers up to date, blogs and newsletters give you greater room to discuss the Webbys. If you have a blog or publish a newsletter, write about working with the Webbys. We use our Tumblr page to share recent Webby news and to post videos, deadlines and related content.See our Guide to Writing and Posting for complete lists of content to blog about.
