The Webby Awards are honored to recognize Lena Dunham & Jenni Konner with a Special Achievement for their work on Lenny Letter. The duo took an old form of digital communication, the email newsletter, and took it to new heights—flipping it to become an unmissable contemporary digest. Featuring original content in each email, Lenny Letter lands in your inbox once a week for fresh and engaging perspectives on feminism and art with editorial pieces by leading women across industry, generation and culture. Konner and Dunham co-produce Lenny Letter together, bringing their shared predilection for being knowledgeable and outspoken about issues large or local, small or abstract. The two also team-up to produce and write the HBO series “Girls” and much of what makes that show a success is apparent in Lenny Letter. An empowered sense of femininity with an aware and current understanding of pop culture and social matters were evident in the first Lenny Letter which included an interview with Hillary Clinton and a feature on the architect June Jordan. Together, Dunham and Konner have used the Internet to communicate important and impactful narratives to generations of digital users. For this, The Webby Awards are thrilled to honor Lena Dunham & Jenni Konner with 2016 Webby Special Achievement Award.
Special Achievement honors those whose work has improved upon the experience and capabilities of the Internet in novel and impactful ways.
