 nby As one of the top-ranked countries in the 2019 International Webby Winner Index, the Netherlands is home to the world’s best digital projects, and the creatives behind the work. Recently, we highlighted the five top-performing Dutch companies in last season’s competition, however there many more projects deserving of praise. 

At The Webbys we continuously recognize the teams creating the world’s leading online work. So we’ve rounded up 9 of our favorite projects from the Netherlands that have been honored at The Webby Awards over the last few years.

2017 Webby Winner: Media Streaming (Websites)

One of The Webbys’ favorite projects to date, the Radio Garden website that compiles various broadcast stations from around the world to a fun experience for users!

Awaken the Phantom by Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam

2019 Webby Winner: Best Media Strategy (Advertising)

To promote the PhantomVSN boot in the wake of the 2018 World Cup, Nike Football and Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam teamed up to create a viral campaign. Using word of mouth from Nike athletes, they drove fans to Whatsapp, where they could watch the campaign’s 2-minute film to learn about the shoe.

Layover with a Local by ACHTUNG! mcgarrybowen

2017 Webby Nominee: Best Practices (Mobile)

Wouldn’t it fun to make each flight layover a local adventure? The KLM Layover App helps travelers turn their flight stops in Amsterdam in a longer trip, by matchmaking them with a local to show them around. This project was nominated twice at the 21st Annual Webby Awards.

The Bunt Machine by WeTransfer and Doubleday + Cartwright

2018 Webby Nominee: Branded Short Form  (Video)

 

This fun video from WeTransfer and Doubleday + Cartwright tells the journey of an artist making a machine that lays down a bunt to creating a one-man play. It’s whacky, well done, and more than deserving of a Webby Award.

The Lockdown by CODE D'AZUR

2019 Webby Nominee: Best Use of Augmented Reality (Games) 

The Lockdown games helps you turn any room into an escape room using Augmented Reality, which Dutch bank ABN AMRO used to test the minds of job applicants looking to join their IT department. The project was honored three times at the 23rd Annual Webby Awards.

Greenpeace: A Journey to the Arctic by MediaMonks

2017 People’s Voice / Webby Winner: VR: Branded Cinematic or Pre-Rendered (Video)

MediaMonks created an impactful VR film for the Oculus app that shows viewers a 360 view journey to the Arctic. In an effort to showcase its beauty and foster a respect for both the landscape and its inhabitants. This stunning project won both a Webby and People’s Voice Award at the 21st Annual Webby Awards.

Helping Heart by N=5

2017 People’s Voice / Webby Winner: Technical Achievement (Mobile)

In this Webby For Good-recognized project, N=5 created a way for the Dutch to donate to the homeless without using cash, which then the homeless could redeem at shelters in the form of a place to sleep, a shower, food, or self-improvement.

100 Years of Mondrian by Dept

2018 People’s Voice Winner: Art (Websites)

Dept created a great website to celebrate Piet Mondrian, the famous Dutch painter. Visitors could learn about his life, work, and where they can find the largest collection of his work.
