The Webby Awards is excited to welcome a slate of brand new experts to the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS): the 2,000+ member body of Internet experts and luminaries who judge work entered into The Webbys each year.
Get to know new Webby judge Sophia Amoruso, Founder and CEO of Girlboss, a professional social network for ambitious women. Amoruso is also author of the New York Times best seller #GIRLBOSS, which has since been adapted into a Netflix comedy series.
We talked with Amoruso about why she’s excited to join IADAS, and some of her favorite trends and things on the Internet right now.
Read our Q&A below, and enter your work before the extended deadline: Friday, Feb. 7th!
1. Why are you excited to join IADAS as a Webby Awards judge?
As a Webby Award winner, I’m so excited to help celebrate the next generation of digital talent. As a veteran brand builder and entrepreneur, I know how hard it is to cut through the noise.
The Webby Awards community is the highest echelon of digital creativity. It’s the who’s who of the internet and a place that fosters innovation.
2. What trend or emerging technology are you most excited about in your field of work?
Digital communities, of course! Which is why The Webbys is so near and dear to my heart. We’re building a digital professional network for ambitious women. The movement of people building meaningful online communities is such an exciting place to be.
3. What specific project or service caught your attention on the Internet recently and why?
Liquid Death – a canned water company with some of the best and most viral branding I’ve ever seen.
4. What was your first screen name?
CalmLikeYourMom – a play on Rage Against The Machine’s song “Calm Like a Bomb.”
5. What’s your favorite app that other people haven’t heard of?
I’m having a lot of fun playing with Cameo, an app that connects creators and influencers with their fans to record short video shoutouts.
