The Webby for Good, produced in partnership with WP Engine, is a showcase of Webby-honored projects and campaigns that are promoting social good in the world.
Describe your project. What is it, what was the elevator pitch?
With this film, we wanted to show that Alzheimer Nederland (the Dutch Alzheimer's Association, ANL) is there for everyone who has to deal with dementia. ANL is there to stand up for better care, invest in important scientific research, and make the Netherlands more aware of dementia and more dementia friendly. We opened up the heart of the organization, showing what drives them by sharing the story of a man who was diagnosed recently and his desire not to be forgotten—that's where ANL comes in, by being there daily for anyone who needs them.
What key challenges did you face with this project? And how did you overcome them?
Budget was the most important challenge: We knew we wanted to make a short film, but an organization like Alzheimer Nederland doesn't have the budget for a film of that length. To keep production costs manageable, we worked with Wefilm (our video partner) and various people who believed in this project and often agreed to cooperate altruistically. The other challenge was finding the right balance between word and image to get the story across.
What was the most rewarding aspect of working on your project?
The passionate cooperation of everyone involved and the confidence and freedom that was given to the production team by our client Alzheimer Nederland. Almost everyone worked with us altruistically, and people often worked with us because the disease had already struck friends or relatives. Many people were emotionally driven, which led to some beautiful shared moments, and when we saw caregivers and patients responding thankfully, it made us humble—we realized we were doing something really good here.
