Women's March

The Webby Awards is excited to honor the organizers of the Women’s March with the award for Social Movement of the Year for using the power of the Internet to spur a major social uprising and awakening. A truly Internet-driven action, what began as a simple Facebook post by one woman in Hawaii became a massive movement literally overnight, creating the need for involvement from seasoned activists. Since then, the organizers of the Women’s March have not only used the Internet to organize the largest demonstration on a single day in United States history, with sister marches in hundreds of countries and 5 million marching worldwide; but they’ve gone much further than that by using social media to keep people educated about and engaged with the movement and its “10 Actions in 100 Days” since the march, including “A Day Without a Woman.” For using the Internet to inspire people all over the world to take a stand, spurring a new wave of activism and marches, and for amplifying the voices and causes of women at a time when women’s rights are under attack, The Webbys is honored to recognize the Women’s March as the 2017 Social Movement of the Year.
