The Webby for Good, produced in partnership with WP Engine, is a showcase of Webby-honored projects and campaigns that are promoting social good in the world.

Describe your project. What is it, what was the elevator pitch?

Solvatten is a Swedish innovation that cleans water using sunlight. We created a new visual identity and website for Solvatten that reflects its role in the clean-tech field. The site's identity had to be playful enough to engage, yet serious enough to communicate their cause while also building brand loyalty, establishing Solvatten internationally, and raising money. In addition, it had to be an experience as great as the product and the brilliant people behind it.

What key challenge(s) did you face with this project?

Our job as a design agency is to bring an outside perspective to the table, and to understand and interpret the product from a design and branding aspect. The client, on the other hand, has the vision and the product. The challenge in this case was to find the perfect alignment between the two perspectives—for instance, what could be communicated through design, and what had to be written in text.

What was the most rewarding aspect of working on your project?

To work with the talented and inspiring people behind Solvatten. Also, it was an honor to help enable such an important innovation to reach even more people. We’re proud to have given Solvatten an identity and digital platform that can elevate the product even more.

Why this particular cause as the subject of your project/campaign?

Solvatten improves people’s lives on so many levels. Not only does it provide clean water, it also provides hot water that makes cooking easier and hygiene more effective. As a result, the people using it are healthier and have more time to spend on other things, like education or productive work. This invention is truly doing good for the world, and we are full of admiration for Solvatten's founder, Petra Wadström, for her commitment and brains, and for the outstanding invention she has brought to life.
