Demand better of the internet.

Mitchell Baker

The Webby Awards is pleased to honor Mitchell Baker with this year’s Webby Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades of leadership at Mozilla and for serving as a fierce champion of open source and the free and open web we all depend upon today.

Through her work at Mozilla, Baker has been one of the world’s most influential leaders on open source, paving the way for the open, collaborative Internet as we know it today and successfully making the case that the Internet belongs to everyone—not one body, not one organization. As the world faces mounting threats to Internet freedom, from censorship to the dismantling of net neutrality, Baker’s life’s work, perspective, and her persistent, strong voice on behalf of the open Internet is all the more essential to preserving continued digital creativity and innovation.

Whether acting as “Chief Lizard Wrangler” or in her capacity as Chairwoman of Mozilla Foundation, Baker stands out as not only an Internet pioneer, but one who has always treated the Internet as the global public resource it was intended to be. For dedicating her career to preserving the free and open Internet, and protecting it from corporate greed, it is our pleasure to honor Mitchell Baker with the Webby Lifetime Achievement Award this year.
