I wanted to illustrate that it’s possible to achieve excellence without sacrificing life. Victor Costa, Creative Developer and Designer

Q: Can you briefly describe your project and the concept behind it?

A: Victor's Work website is a realistic reflection of how I conduct my professional and personal in terms of balance. The inspiration behind the creation of such an extensive and unique website was to inspire creatives in the digital industry to find a nice balance in all pillars of their lives.

Q: Once you settled on your idea, what influenced your decision on the chosen technical approach? How did it differ or go beyond approaches you’ve taken in the past?

A: The most significant influence on this project is highlighting my technical expertise and creativity as a Designer and Developer and translating the concept in a very customized, technological, and engaging environment. Allowing the user to create his own version of the website was the primary goal of communicating with the users and keeping them engaged throughout their navigation.

Q: What were some of your biggest learning and takeaways from this project?

A: The biggest challenge was merging a user-friendly environment respecting strict user experience guidelines, and highlighting modern technologies such as WebGL and Shaders. Bringing my day-to-day life into code without boring the user was another very demanding point, which gave me an essential takeaway on how hard it is to combine texts, videos, images, and illustrations.

Q: What web technologies, approaches, tools, or resources did you use to develop this experience?

A: Front End Tools - VueJs: Progressive JavaScript Framework NuxtJs: VueJs framework PixiJs: WebGL JavaScript Library Greensock: Animations Javascript Library Back End Tools - Prismic: Headless CMS Platform Netlify: Server Service Visual Compositions Tools - Figma: UI and Design application Photoshop: Image Editing Software After Effects: Graphic and Video software Illustrator: Graphic Software Vimeo: Video Platform

Q: How did the final product meet or exceed your expectations? What results did you see?

A: A significant win on this project was the audience's feedback, especially comments on how the website was helpful and encouraging positive habits and changes in their life. My social media inbox and email were flooded with people displaying their enthusiasm toward the website. Mission accomplished was the feeling at the end of this project, I’d delivered a game-changing message to the creatives in our digital industry.

Q: Why is this an exciting time to create new digital experiences?

A: It's easy to notice that nowadays, the sky's the limit when we talk about how the web has evolved in terms of the freedom to explore new technologies, approaches, and ideas. As an independent professional working in the digital industry, one of my main goals is to keep updated with new technologies and how they will help clients achieve their goals of selling more, engaging more, and connecting better with their audience.

Q: How did you reach a good balance of your own creative ideas and technical capabilities with a fair representation of the client’s brand?

A: Reaching a balance between creativity and technical skills was an excellent point of the exercise in this project, mainly because the project targets three different audiences: Creatives in the Digital Industry, Final Clients, and Agency owners. Finding a balance between creating a professional environment and displaying a certain level of personal content required taking steps back and reviewing the approach repeatedly.

Q: What did your initial moodboard, wireframe, or prototype look like? How did those ideas change throughout the design process?

A: The most shocking information about the design process of my project is that I designed the website in the development phase. This approach is hazardous because it's way easier to move pixels back and forth within Prototype tools like Figma than actually typing code. Still, it was crystal clear how I desired the project to look, and I also had an intensive brainstorming phase to decide the content and how it would fit on the website.
