Q: Can you describe your project and the concept behind it? A: Virgin Hyperloop is set to revolutionize the future of transportation. We worked to design a future-facing and scalable website that tells their brand story and educates users about their groundbreaking technology. One of our core objectives was to show that the hyperloop is more than an abstract idea or futuristic concept. We wanted to give users a real look at VH’s engineering feats and progress in major markets around the world.

Q: What influenced your chosen technical approach, and how did it go beyond past methods? A: Virgin Hyperloop is being developed at a rapid pace — and they're at the forefront of creating a brand-new method of transportation. Showcasing specific features of the technology helps users understand its relevance and impact. So on the homepage we felt it was important to show engaging and interactive visuals of the hyperloop while other aspects of the website required a more traditional, modular approach.

When did you experience a breakthrough or an "a-ha" moment during this project?

It was important to find a balance between conceptual 3D, real-time renders, and photography. We used the 3D component to explain some of the technical benefits of the hyperloop followed by real-life imagery and videos to show that this is actually being built and it’s not just a concept.

Q: What web technologies, tools, and resources did you use to develop this? A: We built the site with our own custom vanilla js framework that functions as a single-page application. And we're using the ThreeJS library for our 3D. For our CMS we’ve chosen for Contentful and Symfony as our PHP framework. The rendering of our HTML is done with Twig. And as a host we have gone for our preferred option which is Heroku and having StackPath as the CDN.

Q: How did the final product meet or exceed your expectations? A: We were really happy with the final product, especially the 3D story that frames up the hyperloop technology and the interactive map that gives users an overview of VH's global presence and initiatives. It feels branded and unique while remaining flexible and scalable enough to evolve with the company in the future.
