WHAT:  The 13th Annual Webby Awards

WHEN:  Monday, June 8, 2009 7:00 pm ET

WHERE:  New York City

WHY:  Mark your calendars for The 13th Annual Webby Awards on Monday, June 8th in New York City.

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by the New York Times, The Webby Awards honor the year’s best Websites, online film and videos, ads, and mobile sites, as well as special achievement honorees, including Lifetime Achievement, Artist of the Year, Person of the Year, and Breakout of the Year.

Last year, The 12th Annual Webby Awards received a record 10,000 entries from over 60 countries. The awards season was capped by a star-studded June gala showcasing an influential group of Internet luminaries including Stephen Colbert, David Byrne, and Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am.

In keeping with Webby tradition, all winners must adhere to the Webby Awards’ famous five-word speech limit. Speeches by past winners like Al Gore (“Please don’t recount this vote.”), Beastie Boys (“Can anyone fix my computer?”), and Arianna Huffington (“President Obama. Sounds good, right?.”) made headlines around the world.

The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, “Simpson’s” creator Matt Groening, and Harvey Weinstein.
