Categories

Which category should I enter?

The Webby Awards now has eight entry types to choose from: Websites and Mobile Sites; Video & Film; Advertising, Media & PR; Apps & Software; Social; Podcasts; AI, Immersive & Games and Creators (new this year!). We designed and added categories to allow participants to choose an entry category that best fits their work. It is up to the entrant to choose which is most appropriate for that particular entry. An entry can be entered to multiple categories as appropriate. If work is entered in multiple categories, it is eligible to win multiple times. The Academy reserves the right to move entries to other categories if it is clearly appropriate to do so. Please contact Evey Long at evey@webbyawards.com

Can I enter more than one category?

Yes, you can enter your work into as many categories as you deem appropriate, and it will be evaluated separately for each instance and category it is entered. It is not uncommon for exceptional work to be honored in more than one category regardless of media type.

Due to the historic volume of entries, The Webby Awards has not offered individual comments to its entrants.

How does The Academy judge the Apps & Games entries?

The Academy will judge all Webby Apps and Games entries on the respective operating system of the handheld device or tablet, thus ensuring that the entry is evaluated according to the criteria in its intended medium.

Winning An Award

How many entrants win Webby Awards?

For each category, the Academy will select five (5) Nominees which represent the five best in the category. Out of the Nominees, one (1) Winner will be selected and will win the coveted Webby Award in that specific category. Additionally, the online community, through a public vote, will also select one (1) Winner from the Nominees in each category. These sites receive a Webby People’s Voice Award. Additionally, entries that are not chosen as Winners or Nominees, but are notable in their achievement, may be recognized as an Official Honoree by the Academy. There may be multiple entries (or no entries) in each category designated an Honoree. We reserve the right to honor less than five nominees in any category should the quality of work not meet standards set by the judging criteria.

What do I get if I win a Webby Award or if my entry is chosen as a Nominee or Honoree?

To help promote achievement, The Webby Awards provides its winners with the notable Webby Statuette (additional statuettes can be purchased) and a badge for the winners’ Websites or publications. Nominees and Official Honorees receive a framed certificate and a badge for their Websites as well. All Winners, Nominees, and Honorees will be included on the Webby Winners page of the Webby site. Webby Winners, Nominees, and Honorees have an unparalleled opportunity to promote the recognized entry and the company or team that created it. There is tremendous recognition, prestige and public relations opportunity associated with being selected by The Academy.

How do you ensure that Public Voting is fair and not fixed?

If we detect suspicious activity we will alert the entrant and remove the votes.

The Webby Awards team is constantly looking for suspicious activity during the Webby People’s Voice campaign. Our security team looks for the following throughout the People’s Voice voting process and investigates suspicious activity including, but not limited:

  • email addresses created from automated email APIs and software
  • spiked voting from the same IP address or concentrations from a single geographic IP region
  • email addresses that match those purchasable at popular bulk email address providers
  • large numbers of votes without any referrals
  • a large number of votes in a very short period of time
  • large numbers of votes with very little site visit time and/or low session time
  • users voting multiple times with the same email, usually via abuse of the Gmail + (plus) or . (period) functionality
  • votes from sequential email addresses
Can I buy additional Webby Awards statuettes or Nominee and Honoree framed certificates for members of my team, clients and others if I win?

Yes. Additional awards, certificates, and merchandise can be purchased. Please contact evey@webbyawards.com for more information.

Delivery/Shipping Policy: Each statuette is custom produced. We produce statuettes in the order that orders are received. Typically, statuettes will be shipped to you approximately eight weeks from the date that we receive your order. Once your order ships, you will receive email confirmation with tracking details for your order.

For merchandise, you may request a refund for your transaction prior to it being sent to the manufacturer for processing and fulfillment. Please send an email to evey@webbyawards.com to confirm eligibility of refund. Once confirmed, refunds will be processed within 5 business days of approval. We will notify you via email once your refund is processed.

If, after your order is received, there is an error and/or damage to your merchandise, please contact evey@webbyawards.com for further information and instructions.

Do you hold an event that we have to attend to receive our award?

Traditionally, Webby Winners are honored at a live event held in May. See some highlights from last year’s event or read about it here. However due to COVID-19 we hosted an Internet Celebration for the 24th Annual Webby Awards on May 19, 2020. All Winners were given the chance to mark their win in history and share their hallmark Webby 5-Word Speech with the world.
