27th Annual Webby Awards Announce Winners for Advertising, Media & PR

Roy Wood Jr. to host 27th Annual Webby Awards in New York City on May 15th 

NEW YORK, April 25, 2023 – The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) today announced the Winners for the 27th Annual Webby Awards with BASIC/DEPT® taking home the top honor for Webby Agency of the Year. With 19 Wins and four Nominations including projects like Jeff Koons Moon Phases, Patagonia Footprint Chronicles, and the KFC App, the company earned more Webby Awards across all categories than any other agency this year.

R/GA (7 Wins, 9 Nominations), DEPT® (13 Wins, 2 Nominations), TBWA\Media Arts Lab (6 Wins, 6 Nominations), and McCann New York (4 Wins, 7 Nominations) were all in close contention for Webby Agency of the Year, with standout campaigns like YouTube – #RemakeTheRunway (R/GA), Ted Lasso – Public Displays of Encouragement (TBWA\Media Arts Lab), March For Our Lives – Thoughts & Prayers (McCann New York) and projects like the H&M Virtual Showroom (DEPT®).

The Academy also announced DEPT® as this year’s Webby Network of the Year, with the most pieces celebrated across all Webby categories. DEPT® agencies included DEPT®, BASIC/DEPT®, and Studio Dumbar – creating some of the most recognized work including; Cowboy (BASIC/DEPT®) awarded four People’s Voice wins in Websites and Mobile Sites, Google Store (DEPT®), ChromeOS (BASIC/DEPT®), Patagonia Footprint Chronicles (BASIC/DEPT®) and Fingerspelling (DEPT®) all with 3 respective wins.

McCann Worldgroup (15 Wins, 29 Nominations) and TBWA Worldwide (8 Wins, 14 Nominations) were in close contention, with McCann Worldgroup’s SAS – The Batting Lab (McCann New York) and Acer/Predator – It Lies Within (McCann Demand) receiving two wins and TBWA Worldwide projects like Apple’s Ted Lasso – Public Displays of Encouragement (TBWA\Media Arts Lab) with wins in two categories. Additional Networks in contention were Wieden+Kennedy (6 Wins, 12 Nominations), Accenture (4 Wins, 13 Nominations), and BBDO Worldwide (6 Wins, 8 Nominations).

Agency work with multiple accolades include Netflix’s Stranger Things 4 & Frito-Lay’s Doritos – Live From The Upside Down (Observatory) with 5 wins; Dot Pad (SERVICEPLAN GERMANY), Nike – Just A/Run (R/GA), WWF Germany – Operation #OCEANDETOX (Publicis Media GmbH), Ukrainian Witness – WikiTruth (Publicis Groupe Benelux) and Google’s Black-owned Friday Every Day (BBH USA) with three wins respectively. This year’s Webby Awards saw winning work from around the world from organizations including Leo Burnett Toronto, FP7 McCann (Dubai), MRM Worldwide Spain, The Monkeys (Australia), Q42 (Netherlands) and FCB Africa Ltd.

Alongside Agency and Network, this year’s Webbys also recognize Media.Monks as Production Company of the Year, with 4 Wins and 10 Nominations. This the second year in a row that Media.Monks has received the accolade. m ss ng p eces was in close contention with 1 Win and 8 Nominations.

Host Roy Wood Jr. (The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Roy Wood Jr.: Imperfect Messenger) will return to this year’s star-studded Webby Awards ceremony, which takes place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Monday, May 15.
