(NEW YORK, NEW YORK – September, 13 2022) Today, The Webby Awards announced Ciel VanderVeen has joined the prestigious organization serving as Managing Director. Hailed as “The Internet’s Highest Honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the biggest and most distinguished awards organization honoring the best of the Internet including Websites, Advertising, Video, Social, Apps, Podcasts and Games.
As Managing Director, VanderVeen will lead all strategic business efforts of The Webby Awards and focus primarily on growing the organization’s global influence while staying ahead of industry changes that drive its cultural relevance. In the role, VanderVeen will develop creative plans that expand the company’s market proposition, the categories it honors and identify key marketing opportunities that position The Webby Awards as an authentic industry leader.
VanderVeen will also collaborate with the creative team that produces the Annual Webby Awards Show, that brings together the biggest power players, the most creative creators and talented celebrities each May for the Internet’s biggest night. Her first initiative will be to develop and introduce a suite of new categories that recognize Metaverse, Web3 and work in Responsible Technology for the 27th Annual Webby Awards Call For Entries which opens TODAY, September 13th, 2022.

VanderVeen is an award-winning digital media executive with nearly two decades of social media, marketing, branded content and live digital production experience with a focus on music and entertainment. Prior to joining The Webby Awards, VanderVeen served as Vice President of Social and Digital Events at MTV Entertainment. In her previous role, she led social marketing and content for MTV Entertainment’s biggest tentpoles including the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Unplugged and the CMT Music Awards on CBS.
During her tenure, she developed partnership projects with social platforms including the Webby Award-winning “MTV VMA Stan Cam,” a first of its kind, real-time interactive experience on Twitter that put fans in the driver’s seat, giving them the power to choose the behind-the-scenes moments they wanted to see. VanderVeen also led “Trending: VMAs,” a new collection of awards voted exclusively on TikTok that celebrate the creators and artists driving music trends and culture. Through this project, she was recognized as a ‘TikTok Power Player’ in music by Business Insider.
VanderVeen is also a Webby Award winner, having received accolades for her work at Paramount over the years. Most recently, she and her 2021 VMA team took home a Webby Award for Best in Social Events at the ceremony this past May. Earlier this year, she became a founding board member for Donor Conceived Community, a non-profit that provides resources for people impacted by donor conception and dna discoveries.
This past Spring, the 26th Annual Webby Awards honored the year’s biggest Internet visionaries and activists with a long-awaited in-person ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
