NEW YORK, April 21, 2020 – This year the Webby Awards is working with Vote.org to use their platform to host one of the largest digital registration rallies of 2020 for an expected five million participants. The rally will begin with this year’s nominee announcement and continue throughout the public voting period, culminating with the winner announcement and a first-of-its-kind Internet celebration. During this period, all members of the Webby community will have the opportunity to confirm their voter registration status. Last year’s Webby Awards competition saw nearly five million people visit its public voting site to cast votes for the best of the Internet and millions more tune in for the winners’ announcement and show.
“The global impact of COVID-19 has exposed the importance of competent leadership at every level of government to ensure the health and safety of its citizens. It’s become more clear than ever before that voting matters,” said Claire Graves, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. “That’s why we’re so excited to work with Vote.org to do our part to help make voter turnout in the 2020 election the biggest in US history.”
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Webby Awards to encourage millions of people to check their registration status. There has never been a more important time for voters to have access to digital tools that empower them to participate in our democracy from their home,” said Andrea Hailey, CEO, Vote.org. “With COVID-19, we see election rules and access to voting changing every day. It is critical to ensure every eligible voter in America can have their voice heard this November.”
The rally and voting for Webby People’s Voice will kick off on Tuesday, April 28 at http://vote.webbyawards.com and will continue through the Webby Winner Announcement and Internet celebration on May 19.
