If you’ve ever stopped mid-scroll to rethink your living room layout, chances are you’ve met DearModern. The account, led by architect and feng shui expert Cliff Tan, has become a masterclass in curating the perfect space. With a calm delivery and sharp eye for spatial fixes, Tan helps people across the Internet think intentionally about how they live at home.
Tan won a People’s Voice Award during last year’s competition for showcasing excellence as a Home & Travel creator. We caught up with him to discuss authenticity and what it takes to create award-winning content.

Authenticity! Whenever I make a video, it’s out of true excitement (and sometimes shock), and that comes through in my face, which makes people want to know why and join in!
Post when it’s right! No plan, no schedule, no backups, just make a video when something share-worthy pops up and share just as you would with your best friend!
Everywhere: on holidays, at clients’ homes, even while scrolling on social media. There are ideas and inspiration everywhere, and the less expected the place, the more interesting the idea.
@dearmodern I don’t usually do such travel videos but manila philippines is special 💓
My channel is about feng shui, home planning, and design. Sometimes I get very fun ideas that are not related to the channel at all. An example is my travel vlogs, which initially felt too personal, but people love them!
It means actually making an impact and changing the lives of the people who are lucky enough to come across your content! I always want each and every one of my videos to give something, either learning, motivation, or just fun!
