Ahead of the Extended Entry Deadline on February 11th, we spoke with Richard Sergay, Executive Webby Judge and Executive Producer of Rebel Media Productions. As the founder of the boutique, Washington DC-based consulting firm, Sergay leads the team’s new media, strategic and critical partnerships efforts.
1. For those who don’t know, tell us a little about your background.
I am an award-winning veteran network television journalist and media executive who spent much of his 30-year career at ABC News. I’ve reported on major domestic and international stories for World News, Nightline and Good Morning America. After a six-year assignment as Bureau Chief and Correspondent based in South Africa covering the end of Apartheid and the release of Nelson Mandela from prison and the ensuing peace negotiations, I began a new beat for the network focused on the digital revolution unfolding in the US. After leaving ABC News, I joined Discovery Communications as the Chief Curator of “The Curiosity Project,” whose aim was to answer “The Questions of Life” by interviewing on camera 250 leading luminaries across all disciplines – from art through zoology.
Later I founded and leads Rebel Media Productions, which is a boutique consulting firm based in Washington, D.C., focused on new media, strategic and mission critical partnerships, and high-level thought leadership events.
