The Webby Awards is excited to welcome a slate of brand new experts to the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS): the 2,000+ member body of Internet experts and luminaries who judge work entered into The Webbys each year.
Meet new Webby Judge Sarah Clatterbuck, Director of Engineering at YouTube. Prior to joining Google in 2018, she held roles at LinkedIn, Yahoo!, and Apple. In 2019, Forbes ranked Clatterbuck as among the Top 50 Women in Tech.
We chatted with Clatterbuck about what emerging trends are catching her eye and why she’s excited to join the Academy.

1. Why are you excited to join IADAS as a Webby Awards judge? What particular expertise do you bring to the Academy?
I’m excited to have a chance to recognize innovative, important, and diverse work on the Web… The Internet is truly the single gathering place for the entire world representing nearly all people and cultures. It is important to have an international body with diverse perspectives to recognize ways in which the Internet has strengthened our society as a whole.
I have a long history in consumer and enterprise Internet: media, social networks, marketplaces, and video streaming. In terms of technology, I have deep expertise in UI development, API development, framework development, web and mobile performance, internationalization, and accessibility.
2. What trend or emerging technology are you most excited about?
I’m really excited about deep learning at the edge and the capability to create very personalized experiences that are also privacy-first.
3. What specific project or service caught your attention on the Internet recently and why?
I really love the Swiss Mobility app. It’s basically a giant topographic map with the ability to search routes by road cycling, mountain biking, wheel chair, inline skating, hiking, etc. It’s really helped me discover awesome places in my adopted country.
4. What is on your lock screen of your phone?
On my lock screen is the Laghi del Piani near the Rifugio Locatelli/Dreizinnenhutte in the Dolomites.
5. What’s your favorite Twitter account that other people haven’t heard of?
I’m currently enjoying I Am Devloper (@iamdevloper) on Twitter.
