Get Ready to Watch “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story” on Paramount Network

The six-part docuseries—created in partnership with Shawn Carter and Martin’s family—will premiere Mon., July 30, at 10/9c on Paramount Network.

On February 26, 2012, in Sanford, FL, at around 7:09 p.m., an unarmed 17-year-old black teenager walking home was followed by a neighborhood watch captain named George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman’s decision that night to follow and fatally shoot the teenager, Trayvon Martin, became the catalyst for a social justice movement—and altered the course of the nation forever.

Now, an original documentary series from Paramount Network, executive produced by Shawn Carter in collaboration with Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin (Martin’s parents-turned-activists) and many others close to the case, examines the life and legacy of the boy whose unjust death sparked the Black Lives Matter Movement.

The six-part docuseries Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, premieres on Monday, July 30th 10/9c on Paramount Network.

Based on the book written by his parents, Rest in Power: the Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, the first episode of the six-part series premieres July 30, with the remaining episodes airing on August 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, and September 3rd.

The case surrounding Trayvon’s death, and Zimmerman’s subsequent acquittal in July 2013, marked a critical turning point for the United States, and exposed the nation’s painful history with racism, racial profiling, gun control, and the criminal justice system. Trayvon’s story reverberated across the Internet and beyond, mobilizing activists online and into the streets, while spurring the decade’s largest social justice movement and its rallying cries #BlackLivesMatter and I Am Trayvon.
