Interview with Brazilian Advertising Agency LDC

Why the Internet can't be stopped in 5 words: #WeAreAllTheInternet

As part of our 20th Webbys celebration, we’re thrilled to be featuring LDC (formerly know as Loducca), and their team’s depiction of “The Internet Can’t Be Stopped.” The agency’s highly regarded work showcases their sunny outlook towards design, whether it’s serious or for play. Some highlights include John Frusciante’s satelliteRed Bull Street Art View, and Croacia’s Sound Only Website

Founded in 1995, LDC is a 9-time Webby Winner and Nominee advertising agency that combines talent and character to create deep and sustainable relationships between people, brands and ideas. Some of you might even know of the Beer?! App made by Creative Director Raphael Franzini, for which we can’t cheers to him enough, LDC creates a lot of work for social causes and charities as well including: Waves For Water’s #NoFilter campaign and #WeAreAllMonkeys.

Keep an eye on The Webby Awards social pages, where the LDC team will be unveiling “Brazilians of the Internet”–think Humans of New York, but with a focus on iconic Brazilians including writer Paulo Coelho, Brazil’s first and only Michelin rated chef Alex Atala, Instagram famous artist Rafael Mantesso, and more.

We caught up with LDC’s Creative Director Raphael Franzini and the creative team who created their 20th Webbys “The Internet Can’t Be Stopped” design.

Tell us about your depiction of “The Internet Can’t Be Stopped”

The essence of the network is to be open. In cases like the internet shutdown in Egypt in 2011, and in many other recent events where the internet’s core values were threatened, the community always finds a way around it and the web gets stronger. Try to stop the Internet and it will multiply itself. It’s like putting water on Gremlins.

What’s the best thing to happen to the Internet in the past 20 years?

Chat rooms, forums, BBSs, etc, have always been around, but only social media was able to take this concept to the masses and people became connected like never before, building strong relationships, even when far from each other. And, of course, video on demand and the effect it’s making on the way we consume content.

What are you most excited for in the next 20 years of the Internet?

The Internet can’t be stopped and we don’t know where it’s heading and how it will evolve. And there’s nothing more exciting than that.

Your team has helped shape the last 20 years of the Webbys. What are you working on now?

We are working on a platform where electronic and traditional music concepts collide. We can’t disclose much for now but we’re aiming to launch it 1st quarter next year.

How is LDC using technology to connect consumers to clients at the moment?

More than using technology itself, we’re interested in how technology is shaping human behaviour. To us, understanding this is the key to being more relevant and creating deeper connections between people and brands.
