Every year Webby Winners take the stage at the annual Webby Awards ceremony to deliver a signature 5-Word Speech. We’ve heard everything from “The Oscars should do this” (Kevin Spacey) to “Skyped your mom last night” (Skype) to “Nude selfies ’til I die” (Kim Kardashian).
And while the 5-word limit works great at an awards show (see aforementioned Kevin Spacey speech), these incredible winners definitely have a lot more to say about the awesomeness of the Internet.
That’s why we’re excited to launch The Webby Podcast, a new audio program from the team at The Webby Awards, bringing you the Internet in more than five words.
The Webby Podcast is a weekly show celebrating the people and phenomena that make the Internet awesome. Hosted by Webby Awards Executive Director David-Michel Davies, the show features conversations with the Webby community, including past winners and our incredible judges, about the amazing things they’re doing online.
Our pilot episode features an interview with the co-inventor of the Internet, Vint Cerf. It’s a fascinating, nerdy conversation, full of some amazing stories about the early days of computing. (And yes, Al Gore comes up.)
In episode one, we chat with the founder of Crisis Text Line and former DoSomething.org CEO, Nancy Lublin. Nancy talks all about mental health, AI, machine learning, and how to put all this data to good use.
And in episode two, David-Michel sits down with Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber of podcasting giant Gimlet Media. They chat in front of a live audience at the Gizmodo offices in New York City.
Listen and subscribe on iTunes, Stitcher, and wherever else you get your podcasts. If there’s someone you’d like to hear us chat with on the show, or you have other feedback, feel free to DM us or shoot us an email at podcast@webbyawards.com
We’ll have a new episode for you every week. Stay tuned.
