How do we promote responsible use of technology? And how do we make sure that everyone has equal and equitable access to it? Webby Awards President Claire Graves explored this and the responsibilities we have to each other as we use technology at the It’s Up To Us: A Responsible Tech Future panel. Panelists were two experts in responsible technology: Michele Lawrence Jawando of Omidyar Network and Dr. Fallon Wilson of #BlackTechFutures Research Institute. Jawando and Dr. Fallon had a critical discussion on the current state of technology–especially in relation to its accessibility and how it can be used responsibly–as well as what we can do to use technology to shape our future into one that’s equitable.

In tandem with the panel event and Omidyar Network, we published an industry report on how individuals and organizations are approaching technology and business more responsibly. Available to download, the report explores efforts to democratize technology, implement new business models and safety measures, and introduce regulatory policies or guidelines to act more ethically at this pivotal moment in history.
