John W. Fitzpatrick and his team at Cornell are creating a massive, user-generated database of birdwatching data (and everything else it tells us about the planet) with apps Ebird and Merlin.
Birds are becoming kind of a signal of local changes, as well as regional and continent-scale changes.”

Bird-watching data can teach us so much about bird trends, and about the Earth and its climate. And now you can access and contribute to that data easily, thanks to John W. Fitzpatrick, his team at Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology, and Ebird—a digital database that helps users log data while birdwatching.

Dr. Fitzpatrick sits down with David-Michel Davies to discuss the Ebird and Merlin bird-watching apps, and what all this data ultimately means for the future of humanity and the planet.
