Internet History
Since launching CNN Digital in 1995, CNN has continually redefined what journalism could look like on the Internet, a legacy reflected in its many Webby wins over the years. Its early digital efforts with CNNfn, honored in 1997 in the first year of The Webby Awards, and CNN Interactive, which won the People’s Voice Award in 2000, showed that the network was among the first to treat the web as an essential news platform. As digital storytelling evolved, CNN brought its flagship programming online, with Anderson Cooper 360° and CNN Mobile both honored at the Webbys in 2008 for expanding news into new formats and devices. The network continued to experiment in the years that followed, with podcasts hosted by Audie Cornish, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and David Axelrod. From live blogs and immersive documentaries to interactive election dashboards and the immediacy of reporters in people’s feeds, CNN has been central to the evolution of digital news, setting standards for speed, participation, and storytelling that still endures.
