Cipriani Wall Street to Host the Star-Studded Celebration of Internet Culture

The Webby Awards Show will be available on-demand May 22nd at WebbyAwards.com
NEW YORK, April 17, 2013 – Critically-acclaimed stand-up comedian, writer and actor Patton Oswalt will host The 17th Annual Webby Awards. The star-studded ceremony will take place at Cipriani Wall Street on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 and will broadcast on-demand on Wednesday, May 22 at WebbyAwards.com.

As host, Oswalt will once again be charged with making sure each winner sticks to the Webbys’ famous five-word speech acceptance rule. Notable speeches from last year include Louis CK‘s “When I die, bye bye,” Bjork‘s “A-E-I-O-U” and Instagram‘s “This here requires no filter.”

Fans around the world will be able to watch and share the Webbys on demand starting the morning of Wednesday May 22 at WebbyAwards.com. The Webbys Show channel will launch with all the clips, photos, 5-Word Speeches, special performances and of course, the show in its entirety, all ready for sharing and watching online.

“Patton can out-nerd the nerdiest of nerdy nerds, and out-funny just about anyone,” said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. “He’s the perfect Webby host.”

Patton Oswalt continues to find success in all areas of entertainment, from his Grammy-nominated comedy special “Finest Hour” this past year to his upcoming comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty this December with Ben Stiller. In addition to his guest roles this past year on Justified, Two and a Half Men, and Burn Notice, Oswalt has a recurring role on the upcoming season of HBO’s The Newsroom as well as a starring role on Adult Swim’s The Heart, She Holler. Last year, he was recognized for his work on the big screen, nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for his brilliant performance in Jason Reitman’s film Young Adult, starring opposite Charlize Theron. In 2009, Patton received critical acclaim for his performance in Robert Siegel‘s Big Fan, which made its debut at Sundance in January of that year and was distributed by First Independent Pictures. The film was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and Patton earned a Gotham Award nomination for his performance. Oswalt also provided the voice for Remy, the rat, in Pixar’s Oscar-winning animated film, Ratatouille.

As a comedian, he tours regularly and extensively, headlining both in the United States and UK, and is a regular at music festivals like Bumbershoot, Bonnaroo, Comic-Con and Coachella. Oswalt also has a regular, bi-monthly show at the new Largo at the Coronet Theater in Los Angeles.

This year’s Webby Nominees were announced on April 9, 2013. While Academy members like Arianna Huffington, Instagram founder Kevin Systrom and musician David Bowie select the Webby Winners, Internet fans from around the globe help decide who takes home a Webby by voting in The Webby People’s Voice Awards. Voting is open now until 11:59 p.m. PDT on Thursday April 25 at http://pv.webbyawards.com.
