(New York) April 15, 2021 – The Webby Awards announced today that multi-talented actress, writer, podcaster, host and advocate Jameela Jamil will host the 25th Annual Webby Awards on Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
This year’s Webby Awards, which garnered a record-breaking number of entries from all over the world, will celebrate the best of the Internet and honor the work of the Winners who created some of the most memorable projects on the Internet this year. Fans will be able to watch the star-studded, virtual show on-demand on May 18 at www.webbyawards.com. As host, Jamil will open the show and keep tabs on Winners’ 5-word acceptance speeches, a trademark of the annual awards ceremony. All Webby Winners will be announced earlier the same day.
“I’m obviously no stranger to the Internet and social media,” said Jamil. “And that’s why I’m so excited to host this year’s show and celebrate those who dare to make the Internet a better, more positive place for us all.”
A first-time host to The Webby Awards, Jameela’s work embodies the breadth of the work honored by the Webbys. In addition to several star roles, most recently as Tahani on the popular hit show The Good Place, Jameela is also an advocate who uses the Internet to bring global impact to her work; In 2018 she launched a movement and activism platform called I Weigh. What started as an idea and an Instagram page became a platform and community of changemakers who come together to share ideas, experiences and ultimately mobilize activism. In April 2020, I Weigh launched the successful podcast with Earwolf titled ‘I Weigh with Jameela Jamil’ where Jameela speaks to guests about how they are working through their past shames to find where their value truly lies. In May 2020, the I Weigh platform expanded onto YouTube to bring viewers fresh, original content to keep everyone informed and inspired with a mix of interviews, BTS, mini-docs, and round table discussions. Jameela also starred as the voice of Auntie Pushpa in the Disney series Mira, Royal Detective as well as in Netflix’s series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. In addition, she is the host of the TBS game show THE MISERY INDEX and one of the judges on HBO Max’s competition show LEGENDARY.
