to Examine the Trend of “The Frenzy for First”
This year, Webby Talks will bring its research and insights to thought leaders and strategists at some of the world’s biggest brands and creative agencies, including Google, Microsoft, Dell, The BBC, Funny or Die, Disney, Wieden + Kennedy, BBDO, Ogilvy and others. Senior Webby executives will travel around the world to visit leading companies in technology, advertising and media in Los Angeles, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Sydney and two dozen cities in between.
The Webby Awards, the annual awards show honoring excellence on the Internet, designed the Webby Talks series to provoke conversation and inspire innovation by highlighting emerging trends and creative solutions. “We have watched and celebrated the evolution of the Internet over the last 18 years, noting significant progress and innovation year to year,” said The Webby Awards Executive Director David-Michel Davies. “While The Frenzy for First is just one of the many emerging trends we see on the Internet this year, it’s rich with powerful examples of the risks and rewards often associated with being first.”
“Firsters” as they have been termed by The Webbys, are the increasing number of average citizens going to extremes to share their experiences using and adapting to new technologies. The Webby Talks series delves into what drives these individuals to be first, namely self-actualization, and explores the influence of these enthusiasts and how brands can use “firsters” to evangelize their own messages.
