WEBBY AWARDS ANNOUNCE LIVE FULLY INTERACTIVE EVENT

June 13 Awards Show to Stream Live on Facebook With The Huffington Post, (RED),

SportsNation and Others.

New York, NY (May 9, 2011) – The Webby Awards today announced that it is working in collaboration with Facebook to broadcast the awards show – and its famous 5-word acceptance speeches – live on the site to offer a fully interactive entertainment event that can be enjoyed by consumers online in real time on Facebook. The 15th Annual Webby Awards will take place on June 13, 2011, at The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

The new experience, which utilizes Major League Baseball Advanced Media’s state-of-the-art, interactive, high-definition live streaming technology, will invite consumers to watch the Show in real-time with their favorite celebrities, brands, and media personalities on their individual Facebook Pages. Each of these partners will create custom content suited to their community to compliment the broadcast and share their unique experience of The Webby Awards with fans at home.

The first set of participating partners includes: The Huffington Post, (RED) and SportsNation. The Webby Awards will announce more sets of partners in the weeks leading up to the broadcast on June 13th.

In addition, every Webby Award winner, roughly 200, will also be invited to host the live stream on their Facebook Page. All information and content will be automatically archived online immediately following the live stream for future viewing on www.webbyawards.com

“For the past 15 years, The Webby Awards has celebrated the best of the Internet, from viral campaigns to music and branded entertainment,” said David-Michel Davis, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. “We couldn’t be more excited to be working together with Facebook for our live broadcast, a social media platform that has truly changed the way people and brands communicate and use the Internet.”

For the first time in the history of The Webby Awards, consumers will have the ability to share in-progress highlights, interact on multiple screens, including mobile phone and tablet apps, and experience a video stream that provides not just a front row seat to the awards show, but also the ability to participate and shape the event as it unfolds live. Consumer experiences will also include a “coming up next” feature to allow fans to toggle between pages in real time as the awards show progresses. This unique feature will also give partners the opportunity to win new fans and followers. Additionally, consumers will be privy to the winner’s signature 5-word acceptance speeches and will also have the opportunity to watch multiple live feeds from The Webby Awards at one time.
