Their innovative work can be seen across all projects but most evident in their development and creation of the revolutionary Nike Fuelband, one of the first devices of its kind that combines movement tracking with an online community. The Nike Fuelband “Counts” campaign made R/GA a contender in both Madison Avenue and Silicon Valley with it’s brilliant use of technology and an understanding of how the brand works.
Take a look at the agency’s memorable Webbys moments including Red Burns, the longtime chairwoman of New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and ‘Godmother of Silicon Alley’, introducing R/GA founder Bob Greenberg Agency of the Year at the 13th Annual Webby Awards.
We caught up with R/GA’s Global Chief Creative Officer Nick Law on Virtual Reality, their 20th Webbys artwork and why the Internet can’t be stopped.
Tell us about your depiction of “The Internet Can’t Be Stopped”
Well, it’s a stoplight that will never stop.
What’s the best thing to happen to the Internet in the past 20 years?
The best thing to happen to the internet is something that hasn’t happened; centralized governance. This has meant that it has lived up to its founding mission to “assure the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of all people throughout the world”.
What are you most excited for in the next 20 years of the Internet?
Virtual and augmented reality will add new a dimension to what the internet delivers in the next 20 years. It’s not the total immersion in other worlds that excites me, but the next generation of transparent heads-up displays that will transform how we interact with the real world.
Your team has helped shape the last 20 years of the Webbys. What are you working on now?
At one end of the spectrum we’ve been building out a talented narrative team, and on the other end we’ve developed a world-class accelerator program.
“ Tap is the new swipe.”
How is R/GA using technology to connect consumers to clients at the moment?
Everything we do for our clients is created with the technology their audience is connecting with them in mind. The challenge is to recognize and take advantage of the rapidly changing context of each media technology.
Tell Us in 5 words why the Internet can’t be stopped.
