As one of the top-ranked countries in the 2019 International Webby Winner Index, Germany is home to the world’s best digital projects, and the creatives behind the work. Recently, we highlighted the five top-performing German companies in last season’s competition, however there many more projects deserving of praise. 

At The Webbys we continuously recognize the teams creating the world’s leading online work. So we’ve rounded up 9 of our favorite projects from German that have been honored at The Webby Awards over the last few years.

Re:Imagine Street ARt by Cheil Germany GmbH

2019 People’s Voice Winner: Augmented Reality (Advertising) 

Cheil Germany GmbH was tasked with helping Samsung stand out at The Art Berlin contemporary art event. So they partnered with five street artists to create unique living  murals around Berlin using Augmented Reality.

 

The Blind Photographer by Grabarz & Partner Werbeagentur GmbH

2018 Webby Nominee: Branded Content (Advertising)

Enlisted the help of blind photographer Pete Eckert to photograph the campaign for the new Volkswagen Arteon. What began as Eckert shooting the Arteon over six days in total darkness, transformed into beautiful photographs, and even more beautiful story about the artist himself.

2019 Webby Nominee: Best Individual Editorial Feature (Websites) 

Created by one artist, this Webby-nominated project takes a look at eight political leaders, and the decisions they made both publicly and behind closed doors that impacted their legacies forever.

 

Christmas 2117 by Jung von Matt AG

2018 Webby Nominee: Viral (Video)

It’s the year 2117 in this post-apocalyptic spot for Edeka. A robot stumbles upon old footage of what Christmas looked like for humans, and begins an adventure to experience that loving feeling with a family.

2017 People’s Voice Winner: Mobile Advertising 

Leo Burnett Germany‘s Holoquarium was a great print ad that showcased the underwater world, using an app that projected underwater wildlife into a small prism for all to engage with.

 

Hugendubel Smartbon by Interone BBDO

2018 Webby Nominee: Technical Achievement (Advertising)

This insanely cool project by Interone BBDO helps give customers personalized book recommendations on their receipts based on their recent purchase. It also provides an excerpt from the recommended book and a QR code to purchase—we love that!

DISCOVR THE WORLD by Cheil Germany GmbH

2017 Webby Winner: Travel & Adventure (Video)

This Webby-winning travel experience captured six incredible places around the world, from Southeast Asia to the Arctic, to create a travel experience in VR for Samsung.

2019 Webby Winner: Best Visual Design – Function (Mobile)

denkwerk wanted to inspire a next generation of museum visitors to appreciate theWallraf-Richartz-Museum. So they took museum highlights and brought them to the streets in AR with the Tintoretto2Go app.

2017 Webby Winner: Branded Content (Advertising) 

Burger King wasn’t an official sponsor of Euro 2016, but it wanted to be. So, Grabarz & Partner Werbeagentur GmbH created this insane stunt: using the original Wembley stadium turf to grow Whopper burger ingredients. Take a bite.
